How to finish your Log Furniture

The species of wood we use on our items is Northern white cedar. White cedar is the ideal species of wood for outdoor log furniture. This species of wood is resistant to mildew, while repelling insects.

If left untreated you will see that white cedar will turn a light silvery grey color after about 3 years outdoors. This color change does not mean that the wood is rotting, it is just the sun oxidizing the wood.

If your desire is to change the color at anytime during its lifespan, we recommend applying an exterior stain. This stain does not lengthen the lifespan of the wood, but gives it the color your looking for.
We do not recommend apply a varnish. If a varnish is applied, eventually the wood will get a mold in between the varnish and the wood because the wood is not able to breathe the way it should.

Most of our customers leave the furniture unfinished since it last 20 plus years, but also turns that weathered grey look.
